MAPLE BOARD GUIDE

About

About Maple Board Guide

Guides to maple cutting boards: curly, birdseye, quilted, spalted and other figured maple, what each means for a board, and how to use one well.

Who publishes this

Maple Board Guide is published by Bevel & Bond LLC, a small American company whose end-grain hard maple cutting boards are made in Oregon. We started this site because we kept answering the same questions by email and wanted somewhere to put the answers properly.

Our relationship to the products we mention

We sell cutting boards, and we sometimes link to our own. That is a commercial interest and you should read our recommendations knowing it.

What we try to do in return is be straight about tradeoffs, including where a cheaper board, a different wood, or a different construction is the better buy for you. Where our own products come up, we say plainly when they are the wrong choice, because a guide that never does that is an advert.

How we write these guides

Specifications come from published sources, Janka hardness figures, manufacturer documentation, food-safety research. Where we state something from our own workshop experience, we say so. We do not invent test results, review scores, or credentials.
